This time last year, the world met Andy King via a Netflix documentary detailing the run up to "FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened". Within the documentary, King revealed just how far he was willing to go to take one for the team, becoming a viral internet meme in the process.
Fyre Festival: What Happened?
As I'm sure you're aware, Fyre Festival was founded by Magnises CEO Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule. Their goal was to create a luxury music festival which would take place on a remote island in the Bahamas. Fyre first began to gain attention after McFarland and his team shot a promotional video with high-profile influencers and models, who he paid to create hype on social media.
"Complete Disaster"
However, throughout the planning process the team encountered problem after problem, from last minute location changes to artist cancellations. What was originally dressed it up as an idyllic, tropical getaway surrounded by white sand and deluxe villas, actually turned out to be a few hurricane tents scattered across a desolate parking lot.
One of the standout moments from the documentary came when Andy King described the moment he was told to "suck d*ck" in order to retrieve several containers of water that had been seized at customs.
“Billy called and said, ‘Andy, we need you to take one big thing for the team, you’re our wonderful gay leader, and we need you to go down. Will you suck dick to fix this water problem?’ I literally drove home, took a shower, I drank some mouthwash. I got into my car to drive across the island to take one for the team. And I got to [the head of customs’] office, fully prepared to suck his dick.”
Now, on the anniversary of the documentary's release, King has turned his new-found fame into cash by bagging a sponsorship deal with Evian water. Last week, he shared a competition to Instagram offering fans the chance to win one of the company's new limited-edition bottles. Only ten people will be able to get their hands on one of the bottles, which feature the slogan "So good you'd do anything for it".
