With social-distancing becoming a normality worldwide, a handful of DJs are entertaining from home by hosting virtual parties on social media. STMPD RCRDS is holding a 24-hour livestream festival, SiriusXM helped put Ultra Music Festival online, but it's DJ D-Nice who's coming out on top with his highly praised quarantine parties.
The Bronx native, whose real name is Derrick Jones, has been spinning records on his Instagram Live for a virtual party that he calls "Homeschool at Club Quarantine". Equipped with two turntables and an endless stash of records, he's keeping the masses entertained without ever having to leave the house. One of his most recent livestreams drew upwards of 100,000 viewers, including high-profile guests like Michelle Obama, Will Smith, Rihanna, Missy Elliot, Phil Murphy, Jennifer Lopez, Oprah Winfrey and many more.
"I never would’ve imagined that the best party I would create and DJ would be from the comfort of my own home. Homeschool is a thing! Yesterday was absolutely insane. The amount of artists and friends that virtually partied with me far exceeded my expectations," D-Nice wrote on his Instagram.
"Wash Your Hands"
As fans dipped in and out of the livestream, D-Nice payed homage to the emergency medical and health care workers who are working round the clock as the pandemic continues. He also reminded viewers to wash their hands, maintain social distances and support each other during this difficult time. Towards the end of the nine-hour virtual dance party, D-Nice debuted a song by Childish Gambino— who just dropped his latest album 3.15.20.
After D-Nice's quarantine party went viral, fellow DJs Diplo and Dillon Francis entered the trend by streaming a Coronight Fever mix. With the livestream uploaded onto YouTube, fans who missed out can still enjoy and loop the mix. "The world is at your fingertips," said Diplo on his current Corona World Tour.
