The Scottish DJ will play at the Indonesian festival's 11th anniversary after returning from a hiatus

Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) is Indonesia's biggest and most iconic music festival. After celebrating its 10th anniversary last year at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Bali, this year organisers have announced the festival's return to its home in Jakarta.

Since the first edition- which was held in the local 'Blowfish' nightclub- DWP has never failed to pull together seriously competitive lineups, and it's clear that 2019 is no exception. The release of the first wave of headliners last week was the source of much discussion, particularly due to the appearance of fan favourites Skrillex, Zedd and Martin Garrix- who's just about recovered from his foot injury. However, the most surprising name to be featured is Calvin Harris, an extremely successful producer who has rarely appeared at electronic music festivals in recent years.

Calvin Harris' Rapid Rise to Fame

Calvin Harris (real name Adam Richard Wiles) was born in Scotland in 1984. His early creations were influenced by the music of the 80s, hence the strong disco style. Unlike other producers, for much of Calvin's earlier work the vocals were recorded using his own unique, magnetic voice, noticeable in Flashback and I’m Not Alone.

When he was getting started, David Guetta was already helping to spread popularity for electronic music by working with some of the most successful singers of the moment, so there was no better time for Calvin to jump onto the trend. He launched his third studio album 18 Months in 2012, which not only broke multiple album and charts records but also turned him into the highest earning DJ of that year. Whether it's Feel So Close, I Need Your Love with Ellie Goulding or Let's Go with Ne-Yo, every EDM fan knows the words to at least one of his catchy tracks.

Chart-Topping Champion

Having earned himself awards, fame and fortune, in 2013 Calvin Harris was signed up as a resident DJ at Hakkasan in Las Vegas, subsequently reducing his appearances at major electronic music festivals. Excluding his previous relationship with Taylor Swift- which forced him into the spotlight constantly- Calvin Harris is known as someone with a relatively low-key personality, always focusing on creating music and trying out different styles. Besides his good looks, the Scotsman is an incredibly talented producer who knows how to latch onto the tastes of the current mainstream market. Calvin often joins forces with musicians from diverse fields and is clearly aware of just what it takes to craft a chart-topper.

Over the years, Calvin has produced masterpieces like Under Control with Alesso, Summer (which has reached 1.3 billion hits on YouTube), This Is What You Came For with Rihanna, the Disciples collaboration How Deep Is Your Love and of course his Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1 album. It's safe to say that Calvin Harris' unique style has cemented his unshakable position on the electric music scene.
