Eminem Gives Surprise Performance of 'Lose Yourself' at 92nd Oscars

News 1 min read

The 92nd Academy Awards got underway last night, with Bong Joon-ho's Korean language film Parasite bagging the prize for Best Picture, making it the first non-English language film to do so.

Throughout the night, a star-studded list of celebs took to the stage, with highlights including a Mr. Rogers-inspired performance by Janelle Monáe and Elton John's rendition of (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again. Comedy actors Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig also went viral after giving an iconic award presentation speech that left Bad Guy singer Billie Eilish looking confused...

Speaking of Eilish, the 18-year-old had her own viral moment when she teamed up with brother Finneas to deliver a chilling rendition of The Beatles' Yesterday, which she sang during the In Memoriam segment of the show.

However, the biggest surprise of the night came from Eminem. The rapper shocked the crowd when he burst through the floor and began belting out the lyrics to his 2003 hit Lose Yourself, earning himself a standing ovation. Several audience members could be singing and dancing along, whilst others looked slightly bemused— internet users have commented on Martin Scorsese in particular, who just about nodded off halfway through.

Lose Yourself won the Academy Award for best original song in 2003, when it featured in the movie 8 Mile, but Eminem didn't attend the ceremony that year.

The rapper later posted to Twitter "Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity... Thanks for having me @The Academy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here."
