Just announced: Avicii's posthumous album TIM, which was released in June 2019, has won two of Sweden prestigious Grammis (the country's equivalent to the United States Grammy Awards). The late producer's track SOS ft. Aloe Blacc took home the prize for Song of the Year, whilst TIM was named the Best Electro/Dance Album of the Year. Avicii's college friend, Albin Nedler, and his father Klas Bergling accepted the award on his behalf.
TIM is the project that Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) left about two-thirds completed when he took his life in April 2018. The album was finally completed last year by Carl Falk and fellow producers.
Here's what Carl Falk had to say to The Guardian:
"When someone close to you passes, the emptiness becomes a mission. He told me that this was the first time he'd enjoyed making music in years, so I had to make this as good as I possibly could to honour him and our friendship"
Falk put the finishing touches to Ain't A Thing, Bad Reputation, and Fades Away, while Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir (Vargas and Lagola) helped bring Piece of Mind, Tough Love, and Excuse Me Mr Sir to life, with Avicii co-writing all songs.
Falk, who has known and worked closely with Avicii since 2010, shared this moment on his Instagram, congratulating and thanking everyone that was involved in the process of completing TIM.
Without the help of Falk and the rest of the production team, TIM could not have been such a powerful tribute to the late dance music icon, so for that we're truly thankful.
