As the end of the year draws near, streaming platform Spotify have released their annual insights, revealing which artists and albums have been played the most throughout 2019. Not only that, but as we're approaching the end of the decade, they've also announced which artists dominated overall during the last ten years.

The top 3 most-streamed artists of the year were Post Malone, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande, respectively. Rapper-singer-songwriter Post Malone's album Hollywood's Bleeding dropped just 12 weeks prior to the list being revealed, but it nevertheless reached the number 2 spot on the most-streamed albums chart. Over the course of the year he managed to amass over 6.5 billion streams, which resulted in his collaboration with Swae LeeSunflower— becoming one of 2019's most-streamed tracks.

Malone is closely followed by 17-year-old Billie Eilish, whose debut album When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? earned the title of most-streamed album—marking the first time a woman has topped this chart. In addition, her catchy, global hit "bad guy" was the second most-streamed track of the year, following Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes' Señorita.

Songs of the Decade: Avicii and The Chainsmokers Make the List

The top-played artist from over the last ten years is none other than Drake, followed by Ed Sheeran and Post Malone. Sheeran's Shape of You was the most-streamed track from the whole decade, whilst his soulful hit Thinking Out Loud came in at number five. As for the women, Ariana Grande reigned champion, followed by Riri and Taylor Swift. Spotify also assembled a playlist based on the most popular tracks from over the last ten years, featuring Wake Me Up by the late Swedish producer Avicii as well as songs by The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris, Major Lazer and more.
