Luca Parmitano delivers set from space

Earlier this week, Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano became the first person in history to play a DJ set from outer space. Parmitano gave the performance from the International Space Station, where he has been living since July 21 of this year. His audience could be found 400km away, onboard the BigCityBeats World Club Dome Cruise Edition as it floated in the Mediterranean, aptly not too far from the party island of Ibiza.

In order to prepare for the momentous occasion, German DJ Le Shuuk offered a helping hand, training Parmitano and selecting several pieces for his set. During the show, the astronaut played trance sounds from a DJing app on his tablet, declaring "Let's see if you can do it going sidewards like me!" as he floated around the cabin.

Regarding his set, Parmitano said:

“It was an incredible opportunity for all of us to make a dream come true. This opportunity to combine science and music was a great experience. I hope that everyone now sees the world a little bit differently and enjoys life – just as we do this up here on the ISS.”
