Since the inaugural voyage in 2014, Livescape Group's festival cruise It's The Ship (ITS) has been revolutionising EDM events within Asia. Originally starting out in Singapore, the festival then expanded into China, and now it's finally the turn of South Korea.
Halloween at Sea?
However, that's not the only new development for this year. Shaking it up for the new decade, in November ITS Singapore will return just in time for spooky season. As the name suggests, the Halloween edition will set sail from Singapore, cruising over to the tropical paradise Langkawi (off the coast of Malaysia) before heading back again.
Year after year, an ever-growing community of 'shipmates' returns to the festival, but what exactly is it that draws people to the idea of an EDM rave at sea? One of the most obvious reasons is the luxury element: having your own private cabin and bathroom definitely beats roughing it with a sodden wet tent and grimy festival toilets, that's for sure. Each day you can wake up feeling as fresh as the last (albeit pretty hungover), before heading down to check out the multitude of restaurants or relaxing poolside.
What's more, the entertainment activities are endless. Guests can choose from rock climbing, mini golf, waterslides, glow bowling, and so on— not to mention a series of classes and workshops to take part in.
A 'Shipmate' Community
However, where It's The Ship really stands out is the way they've cultured a family vibe onboard that's incomparable to other festivals. Shipmates become close friends, reuniting once a year to make new memories and forge new friendships, and it's not just the attendees that get involved. There's no backstage on the boat, which means your favourite DJs end up getting thrown into the centre of the action alongside you, participating in classes and activities for the whole duration.
The lineup still remains a mystery, so it's worth keeping an ear to the ground for any updates. In the past, acts have included the likes of Sam Feldt, What So Not, Nervo, Ben Nicky, Darren Styles and Ookay, as well as special guest captains like Big Shaq and Fyre Festival’s Andy King
It's The Ship's Korean Maiden Voyage
In other news for 2020, last year it revealed that Livescape Group will be taking It's The Ship to South Korea for the first time. The Costa NeoRomantica will sail between Busan and Fukuoka, Japan on August 28-31, bringing with it a colossal crew of EDM enthusiasts and DJs.
“We look forward to this maiden voyage for IT'S THE SHIP Korea, proudly indicating the growth of our homegrown brand and our international expansion through new charters worldwide.” said Iqbal Ameer, CEO of Livescape Group.
